Dr. Songkai Qiu obtained his Ph.D. Degree at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). He worked as a researcher at NUIG and a Process R&D Engineer at a consulting company in Ireland before he joined the College of Environment in Zhejiang University of Technology.
His main research interests are the environmental biotechnology and its application in waste gas purification, wastewater management, and carbon emission. His past research experience includes:
1. Online monitoring and control system for anaerobic digestion process, carbon footprint of industrial activity, and renewable energy policies of Europe Union.
2. Nitrogen removal from sewage under low temperatures using partial nitritation-anammox process.
Nitrogen removal using partial nitritation-anammox process, structural and functional evolution of the microbial community, and the mechanisms of N2O production during nitritation.
Advanced treatment of leachate using ozonation-biological activated carbon process.
Biological purification of VOCs.
His research outcomes include granted/applied patents, peer-review articles in leading international journals such as Water Research,Science of The Total Environment,Journal of Cleaner Production, Critical Reviews in Environmental Science & Technology, Journal of Membrane Science, etc. His research outcomes have also been shared to stake holders at international conference including The 15th IWA World Conference on Anaerobic Digestion, Livestock Waste Conference, ICAERE, etc.
