Dr. Xi Chen's interdisciplinary research spans spatiotemporal intelligence, remote sensing and geographic information systems (RS&GIS), and sustainable development . His work integrates geospatial technology with environmental science to address critical challenges in arid and semi-arid regions.

Led national flagship research programs as Chief Scientist, including the National 973 Program, National Major Engineering Projects, and Key International Cooperation Initiatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Directed the Xinjiang Scientific Expedition Big Data Platform (National Key R&D Program) and a Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
